Wish you a beautiful weekend! I’m starting my day off with a cup of coffee and a new post…
The scent of old books
Posted on | July 22, 2010 | No Comments
Awakened by a project the other day. The scent of dusty old books always gives me a fast lane ride into history, it’s like magic. Suddenly I’m surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of years, voices, meetings, letters, numbers, whispers, colors and poetry… A small project brought this on, I assure you that I’m neither drunk or crazy!
How about you? What works like magic for you??
Summer colors

Summer still rules although the weather in Gothenburg isn’t what I would like it to be at the moment. Some nice findings in “summery” colors:
- Vintage pink glasses fromSoVintage - if you want to look like ever so beautiful Sophia Loren.
- Icon clock from & Design - I don’t like clocks that much, but I would hang of these in my home.
- Plastic kettle from AfroArt – for watering your flowers and it’s made of recycled plastic.
- Luggage trolleys from Epic – I have the white one in two sizes, it’s great.

Tequila lamp

They say this plant blooms once in 25 years. Stray dog Designs (a favourite of mine!) is bringing this gorgeous table lamp to you. It’s hand made of papier mache from recycled materials by artisans in Haiti. You can chose from 2 shade colors and 16 base colors. Combine the way you prefer! I’m buzzed…
DIY project 2

I’ve gotten hooked on DIY projects! Project no 2 is somewhere in this picture. Stay curious and stay with me – will reveal the “mystery” soon. And this time I’ll keep my promise on “soon”
It’s a beautiful Friday morning right now and I wish your day will be filled with magic!

DIY project 1 – step 2 + final result
Posted on | July 15, 2010 | 5 Comments

setting the correct dimensions for printing template - I chose 800x800 mm and then printed it out on 9 A4 sheets

put the paper template on top of a large piece of film and make marks for cutting the final template
I was reminded to show the steps and final result of my DIY project 1 by a visitor (Thank you, Renate!). Sorry for being forgetful! So here it is – my complete project:
- I started out by finding a mandala pattern (unfortunately I have forgotten where I found it – sorry, but let me know if you stumble upon it) I liked and transformed it slightly using Illustrator. Since I’m using CS 3 (but secretly longing for CS 5), I traced the pattern and did some small alterations.
- I wasn’t going for a perfect symmetry since I was going to cut my template by hand, and I kind of like when not everything is perfect. I duplicated the outer part in case I needed some kind of border, but later I realized that it wasn’t necessary.
- I set the correct dimensions in Illustrator (in this case I chose them to be 800×800 mm) and then printed my template on 9 A4 paper sheets. At the time I didn’t have film to print on, this giving med the double amount of work since I had to cut the template twice. I strongly suggest you print the template out on film at once.
- The rest of the project you can follow by the pics above.
Unfortunately the pattern is not visible during the day, but in the evenings it’s quite nice to watch. So if you want a visible mandala pattern during daylight, I think you have to use a dark color to spray with. It came out a bit fuzzy too, but hey – I did it myself !
I learned many things while creating this. One is to have the proper materials from the start, this will save you time. I had to run out to the nearest store to find film that I could use for the template. One or two great cutters are crucial (please invest in a really good one, they become your best friend after a while). Spraying isn’t as easy as it seems to be. Now i know why Banksy is so great. If you can, spray outside. I did it in my kitchen leaving a couple of not-so-easy-to-remove spots on the floor and a lethal odour for a couple of hours. I consider myself as quite smart, but I really question that from time to time. And last, try everything once or there will never be great DIY projects!

Poetic horizon

Sometimes I read words like I’ve never met or read them before – at that moment, they transform themselves into poetry. Read and done.
